# Checkout block

On Shopify Plus (and development stores with checkout extensibility), FlexCover can show your plans **inside checkout** — the highest-intent moment of the whole purchase. Customers who skip the cart widget get a second chance here.

## Adding the block

1. In your Shopify admin: **Settings → Checkout → Customize**.
2. In the checkout editor, click **Add block → FlexCover Checkout**.
3. Place it and click **Save**.

By default the block lands at the **top of the contact information section** (above *Contact*) — the standard spot for protection apps, since every customer passes through it. Checkout only accepts app blocks in certain areas (contact, delivery and payment sections) — the header, footer and order summary don't take blocks — but within those, drag it anywhere you like.

## Settings

The block has two settings in the checkout editor:

| Setting | Default | What it does |
| ---------------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **API base URL** | empty | Leave empty — the block talks through your store's app proxy automatically. |
| **Show banner** | off | Adds a "Protect Your Order" info banner above the plan list. Off by default; the plan cards already explain the coverage. |

## What customers see

* One card per eligible plan: icon, display name, price, description, and a switch.
* Ticking a switch adds the protection to the order and updates the totals **inside checkout** — no page reload, no going back to the cart.
* Removing it in checkout removes the charge just as cleanly.
* Plans that are [auto-added](/flexcover-protection-plans/protection-plans/plan-behavior.md) are applied without a switch; they're enforced here the same as in the cart.

> 💡 In the checkout **editor preview** you'll see sample plans (shipping protection, a 2-year warranty, easy returns) so you can judge the layout before saving. Real customers see your real configured plans.

## Cart widget, checkout block — or both?

Both is the answer for most Plus stores: the cart widget catches shoppers in the browsing flow, the checkout block catches the rest. They share the same plans and pricing, and they stay in sync — if a customer ticks a plan in the cart, it simply carries into checkout as a line item; the checkout block then offers whatever they haven't taken yet.
